SWISS Contact: Study MSD Analysis on Dibra Rural Economy with focus on selected value chains, SWISS Contact and UK AID 2023

Project: “SWISS Contact: Study MSD Analysis on Dibra Rural Economy with focus on selected value chains, SWISS Contact and UK AID 2023”.

Purpose: The document is a Report for the validation of the potential of the identified sectors (tourism, MAPs, NTFPs, agro-processing, ICT) for Dibra Municipality, to identify opportunities and constraints for strategic economic infrastructure, tourism development, and further business development opportunities in MAPs, NTFPs, agro-processing, and ICT. 

The document is for the ‘Perspektiva të reja’ project. NP project is funded by the UK Government and implemented by Swisscontact, in consortium with TAG International. The project aims to improve key socio- economic conditions that often drive people to migrate irregularly to the UK from the North of Albania (Kukës, Has, Tropojë, Dibër). The project runs from September 2022 to 31 March 2026.

Objective of assignment :

The document presents a report assessing the potential of key economic sectors in Dibra Municipality, including tourism, MAPs (Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), NTFPs (Non-Timber Forest Products), agro-processing, and ICT. It aims to identify opportunities and constraints for strategic economic infrastructure, tourism development, and business growth within these sectors.

The report has been developed under the “Perspektiva të Reja” project, funded by the UK Government and implemented by Swisscontact in consortium with TAG International. The project seeks to improve key socio-economic conditions that contribute to irregular migration from Northern Albania, particularly from Kukës, Has, Tropojë, and Dibër.

The specific Objectives:

• Validate the potential of the already identified sectors (tourism, MAPs, NTFPs, agro-pr cessing, ICT) for Dibra municipality.
• Conduct and elaborate a quick market system analysis identifying the present function and possibilities for their further development. 
• For the identified sectors make a quick first approximation of:

• value chains in the priorities sectors.
• the opportunities for business development through market linkages, export promotion, matching with foreign companies;
• the main opportunities and constraints for all the identified sectors in Diber Municipality.

• Identify the most important actors, key companies, and potential partners in the priority sectors for Dibra Municipality. 
• Make a preliminary analysis of the strategic economic infrastructure for the prioritized economic sectors in Diber (identify new possible strategic infrastructure projects, assess the interest for private and public co-investments)

Propose intervention strategies for the potential sectors and strategic projects.
